Analgesics

Overview

EndogenX has several product candidates that address the worldwide market for pain therapeutics. These product candidates include enhanced opiate and non-opiate pain management formulations. In addition, candidates are under investigation to reduce or eliminate drug tolerance from repeated opiate use, diagnose increasing opiate tolerance, reverse drug tolerance and address pediatric drug withdrawal. These product candidates incorporate an endothelin receptor antagonist in the formulations which must be developed or licensed from a third party.

An estimated 50 million Americans live with chronic pain caused by disease, disorder or accident. An additional 25 million people suffer acute pain resulting from surgery or accident. Approximately two thirds of these individuals in pain have been living with this pain for more than five years. The most common types of pain include arthritis, lower back, bone/joint pain, muscle pain and fibromyalgia. Products driving growth in this area are not new molecular entities, but tend to be improved versions of existing drugs.

The trend toward an aging population and increased survival rates have led to significant increases in individuals being prescribed pain medication for chronic, acute, moderate, and mild pain. There has been a growing pro-opioid sentiment with emphasis on creating improved versions of morphine.
